Evan's Story
Evan was born 8 weeks early and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of 18 months. Evan is a confident chatty little boy, however prior to SDR was unable to stand unaided and walked stiffly and slowly with a walking frame. When we sent the x-rays to St.Louis they told us that Evan's hips were displacing and he would need painful hip surgery if we did not do somethign soon. His outlook for the future was not positive.
Evan underwent SDR in St. Louis, USA in December 2010 after friends, family and the company I worked for the raised the money we needed for surgey and aftercare costs within 6 weeks. Two weeks after surgery Evan stood unaided for the first time in his life and 3 years later he is walking independently indoors, albeit slowly. The picture is of the first time Evan stood not holding onto anything. This whole experience has shown us that there are people who care out there and we were amazed how people came so quickly together. I spent a lot of time in the HR department crying because of the overwhelming generosity of strangers.
Evan returned to the USA in August 2013 and was told that he will walk unaided in the future without falling, had a good chance of being able to run and he would likely achieve his dream of being able to jump. Best of all he is unlikely now to need hip surgery which is a huge relief.
As parents of a child who has undergone surgery, we understand the emotional rollercoaster of the journey and want to help others get through it" (Paula, Evan's mum and trustee of the charity)

Before surgery Evan couldn't stand unaided. This video taken in 2013 shows how far he has come. Last weekend 30th September 2013 Evan walked away from his frame to play football for the first time. he keeps on amazing us. You can read more about Evan HERE
