Funding success.  Don't miss out.

In June 2015 we gave out our first grant for therapy and since then we have provided funding of £2564.  Every family can apply once per year and applications are not means tested.  We only ask that you fill in a follow up survey so that we can show how our funds are helping.

Applying is easy.  Please go to the
Apply for Funds tab for more information.  A number of providers are already registered with us and you can find information on the Resources tab under Aftercare Information.  If the provider you are using is not yet registered, they will need to complete Part C of your application as a one off exercise with annual reviews in case of changing information.  As part of our due diligence, we will require certain documentation from them to show we are sending funds to legitimate organisations.

Our Vision

For children and adults with Cerebral Palsy in  Wales to have  access to SDR surgery and the therapy they need to reach their full potential

Our Mission

  • Support families pre and post SDR surgery (Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy). SDR is a neurosurgical procedure that can reduce spasticity and improve coordination and mobility for many people with certain types of cerebral palsy.
  • Provide information to medical professionals in order to promote SDR as a beneficial treatment for those children and adults accepted by the expert neurosurgeons and their multi-disciplinary teams
  • Work with the WHSSC (Welsh Health Specialised Services Commission) and the Welsh Assembly to encourage provision of surgery and most effective level of therapy for patients in Wales.
  • Provide grants to families to provide required therapy for patients to meet their full potential

Our values
  • Focusing on helping patients achieve their full potential
  • Creating and retaining strong partnerships with experts and
  • Achieving excellence in everything that we do.
  • Delivering an efficient service to our members at minimum cost.

To date the NHS in Wales has funded a small number of  children to have limited laminectomy SDR through a trial, however funding has now stopped with no plans for future funding put in place.  Families will still need to carry out private fundraising going forward for the surgery and aftercare. See our Stories pages.

Although families usually manage to raise the money needed for SDR eventually, the costs continue afterwards.  So Support4SDR Wales is raising funds to help pay for equipment, therapy and training, whilst also promoting families' fundraising efforts prior to surgery, and reaching for the ultimate aim of NHS funding for all patients who will benefit.
